We understand that there are a lot of fears and anxieties that accompany a visit to the dentist. We are aware that everyone’s needs are different, and we want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible when you come to our office for a dental procedure. Whereas so many patients suffer from dental anxiety, we find sedation dentistry to be one of the best procedures to calm your nerves. Sedation is a safe and effective solution for those who are afraid of visiting the dentist, suffer from anxiety, or have a difficult time going totally numb during treatment. We want you to have the stress-free experience that you deserve, and a choice when it comes to your concerns in this area.
Many times our patient do not remember much about their dental appointment and/or feel like the visit was very short even when complex treatments are rendered. Life changing stress free dentistry is our goal.
There are various types of sedation that are used to help people with their dental anxieties. We provide nitrous oxide, oral sedatives, and we also have the capability of arranging intravenous sedation, as well. Our staff is experienced to help you choose the best method of sedation for you, and are able to deliver quality care involved.
Oral sedatives are prescribed before a dental procedure, and are based on your level of anxiety. They are typically taken the night before the procedure, and then administered again 1 hour prior to the procedure in the dental office. During oral sedation, nitrous oxide is used in addition to the oral sedatives, while the patient is constantly monitored throughout the procedure to ensure that they are safe, and relaxed. It is important to remember to make arrangements for an adult to drive you to/from your appointment, and to watch you throughout the next 24 hours following your procedure.
Nitrous oxide will create a relaxed feeling for patients. During the procedure, the patient will breathe in the gas to remain calm. Within 30 seconds to 4 mins, patients will start to receive a feeling of relaxation. Local anesthetic will be applied once you feel relaxed, and then we can begin the dental work. Patients are constantly monitored during the procedure to ensure that they can tolerate the nitrous oxide, and to make sure that they are relaxed. You are usually fine to drive on your own immediately following the dental procedure.
For the children who need alot of work done, we offer an inexpensive sedation option. Children often have high amounts of energy, or they are scared and anxious when visiting the dentist. Sedation is one of the best ways for us to complete the necessary procedures without leaving them with negative memories.
